Weekly Photo Challenge: Wonder

I’m participating in the Post-A-Week 2011 challenge.  This week’s challenge is “Wonder.” I was filled with a sense of wonder today as I walked along the Mississippi River at Hidden Falls Park and Crosby Farm Park. I loved caves, tunnels, crevices, and passages as a

Word and Wordless Wednesday – Plant Gardens

4 This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem: 5“Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce. 6 Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so

The Parable of the Bags of Gold

14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more.17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’

21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’

23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’

26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Cynthia sent me this article from “Working Preacher.”
It spoke to my heart, and reminded her of “Reimagine Imago.”

I can’t say it better than him, so I’ll just give a little quote, and then send you to his page.

. . . .whatever it was that the third servant saw that so terrified him did not have the same effect on the first two. They saw something different, and that changed everything.

For some God is loving and kind, like a benevolent grandparent. For others God is stern and judgmental. For some God is protective, for others God is always on the verge of anger. For some God is patient and long-suffering, while for others God is impatient and dour. These pictures shape not just how we think about God but how we actually experience so many events in our day-to-day life that we connect — often unconsciously — to God and our life of faith.

Creativity Tuesday: Non-Angry Birds

Creativity Tuesday: Non-Angry Birds

I have a bad habit of buying fat quarters just about any time I enter a fabric store.  So I’ve collected quite a few of these babies without any explicit plans to make something.

I found this pattern for stuffed birds the other day and was totally delighted by them.

Here’s what I did:

I love birds, I realize that they’re super trendy, and maybe even a little passe in the world of home design and craft, but there’s something so sweet about a little bird.  I don’t know if it’s God’s promise to care for us more than the sparrows, or if it’s just their ability to fly, or their delicate hollow bones, there is just something so charming about a little bird.

You drive a neighborhood every day. Come home from work, hungry and ready to get dinner on the table. Your attention is on what needs to get done, not on what is in front of you. You leave your home early in the morning. Late

For Men Only? An Open Letter to Women in Seminary

I never had Kyle Roberts at Bethel, but my friends who did respected him quite a bit.  I appreciated his letter this morning.  I also appreciate his honesty in where he came from and where he is now. If you are a woman who
